Success Program
The mission of the SUCCESS Program is to empower students with disabilities to become contributing members of a global society by assisting them to develop social competencies, promote their independence, and encourage self-advocacy for them in a safe and nurturing environment. The SUCCESS program provides post-secondary transition education for students ages 18-21, who have completed at least four years in a comprehensive high school, an exhibit potential for working independently in the domain of competitive employment.
The SUCCESS Program, in Catoctin Mountain Park and Cunningham Falls State Park started in the Spring of 2014. In late 2013 after learning about the Frederick County Public School SUCCESS program, Catoctin Forest Alliance, with a strong belief that everyone has potential, led to a pilot program in 2014. Led by CFA members, the student groups have worked on many projects in the Parks: trail maintenance; water gardens; weed control and removal; developed three new trails from start to finish, learned all aspects of what is involved; built picnic tables; performed general maintenance in the Parks; worked with a variety of tools; and so much more.
