Ramsay Barnes Virginia Creeper 2011

Ramsay Antonio-Barnes was a Catoctin Mountain Artist-in-Residence in August 2011. He is from Baltimore, MD and has an M.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Hoffberger School of Painting, Baltimore, MD; Post Baccalaureate in Painting/Drawing from the Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy; a B.F.A. in Photography from the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford, West Hartford, CT. He currently teaches Photography at the Maryland Institute Collage of Art as well as Towson University.

Ramsay's current photographic work stems from a previous body of work involving Cyanotype and Vandyke photographic prints using plants. Through the contact printing process, the painted silk texture of the plant becomes visible. Ramsay states that his visual aesthetic is influenced by the early English botanist and photographer, Anne Atkins (1799-1871).
