Laura Brady
Laura Brady was our Artist in Residence at Catoctin Mountain Park in the summer of 2015. Laura had been painting for 9 years at the time of her residency. She received an Associate of Fine Arts degree from the School of Art and Design at Montgomery College. She also studied at the Maryland Institute and earned a B.S in Art History from the University of Maryland. Laura’s work, Sawmill Guts, is one of a series of three pieces that depict the “guts” of the sawmill at Catoctin Mountain Park, which is usually not seen. Each piece uses the same composition but a different medium—ink on vellum, colored pencil on dark paper and graphite on white paper. The piece is ink on vellum and can be illuminated from behind because of the transparent nature of the vellum.
